Four filling stations and two petrol stations in the state of Nigeria have been sealed by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Eket office, due to licence non-renewals and bad housekeeping.
This was revealed to reporters by Authority Coordinator Mr. Ikechukwu Eseka on Friday during a regular inspection of petrol stations in Uyo.
“Some of the filling stations are sealed for non-renewal of licenses and poor housekeeping in the stat.”
Eseka stated that the fuelling stations in the state capital, Uyo, had been sealed. He advised marketers not to underdispense, stockpile, or divert petroleum products.
Eseka stated that the Authority was also conducting housekeeping surveillance to ensure that the state’s facilities met the required standards.
Final Thoughts
While regulatory enforcement is necessary, sealing stations could temporarily impact fuel availability in the affected areas, depending on the extent of the action. This needs to be managed carefully to avoid causing shortages or panic buying.
In summary, the NMDPRA’s actions are aligned with its mandate to regulate and ensure the safety and integrity of the downstream petroleum sector. It serves as a reminder to industry operators to maintain high standards and stay compliant with regulatory requirements to avoid disruptions and penalties.
