Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor of Lagos State has declared Tuesday a work-free day in the state to mark the 2024 Isese Day celebration.

This announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Service of the state, Bode Agoro.

Isese Day is an official public holiday in certain South-West states such as Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, and Kogi and it aims to foster a sense of identity among zealots of traditional religions.

The statement further revealed that work would resume in all public offices (courts included) across the state on Wednesday to allow traditional worshippers fully celebrate their day.

For Lagos State, this will make it the first time the state government would be declaring a holiday for the Isese Day celebration following the United Nations’ declaration of August 20 as World Traditional Religion Day.
