The Russian Embassy in Paris accused French authorities of not cooperating and denying consular access, following the unexpected arrest of Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, a prominent messaging platform, at Le Bourget Airport in Paris on Saturday evening.
Durov, a 39-year-old Russian with multiple citizenships, was detained upon his arrival from Baku, Azerbaijan, leading to diplomatic tensions between France and Russia.
French authorities alleged that he neglected to take adequate measures to stop criminal offenses like fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organized crime, and terrorism within the platform.
OFMIN, a French agency responsible for preventing violence against minors, issued an arrest warrant against him.
According to investigators, it was surprising that Durov went to Paris knowing he was a wanted person there.
