The Ministry of Defense for Russia reported that their troops have gained two additional settlements in Eastern Ukraine: Mykolaivka, located within the territory of Donetsk region, and Stelmakhivka base, established at Lugansk area. The development marks a significant advancement in the military activities currently being undertaken by Russia.
This rural community was strategically located about 15 kilometers away from the important logistics town of Pokrovsk. Earlier on, Pokrovsk used to have close to sixty thousand residents, but now it has served as a stopping point during Russian advancements over recent months.
Despite Ukrainian forces’ efforts to hold back the Russian assaults, they have been outnumbered and outgunned. In a surprise move towards the end of this month, Kyiv launched an offensive into Kursk Oblast’s border region with Russia, aiming at drawing attention away from Donetsk City. However, Russia remained focused on its campaign within industrialized Donbas and continued making progress.
In addition to the village capture, there were also casualties resulting from bombardments that took place in Nikopol, located south of Kyiv, where one person was killed while five others sustained injuries, as stated by local officials. The shelling destroyed several structures, as well as cars and a gas pipeline, among other things.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia has targeted several locations in Ukraine with up to 74 attack drones and 5 missiles; however, most of these projectiles were intercepted by the air defense systems. This overnight assault marked the third consecutive night of massive Russian bombardment, resulting in at least 11 fatalities.
In response to the escalating situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that F-16s provided by the West have been dispatched to ward off attack drones and missiles. The Ukrainian air force reported having hit two missiles as well as 60 attack drones; some other drones crashed due to failure of their systems.
