Commercial transport operators in the state have been urged to maintain calm by Mr. Victor Olaiya, Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, while the government endeavours to enhance the nation’s economic circumstances.
The state’s transport operators, including commercial taxi drivers, tricycle operators and motorbike riders, protested over the recent hike in fuel prices in Ilorin, the state capital, last Thursday.
This was followed by the appeal. At their meeting on Friday at the command headquarters in Ilorin, Olaiya urged the representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria to preserve peace in the state.
The Kwara Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, signed a statement on Sunday stating that Aliyu Muyideen and AbdulRaham AbdulRazaq, the state governor’s senior special assistant on security, were also present at the meeting. The gathering recommended the transit providers to maintain calm in the state.

“He informed the unions that the Federal Government is actively tackling the current economic crisis to enhance the lives of all Nigerians. “The Commissioner of Police also urged the transport unions to direct any concerns, notably over security, to their chairmen.
“He highlighted the need of discussion and cooperation, telling them that His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Executive Governor of Kwara State, is fully committed to their well-being and is available to assist them in any way.
“The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the continued safety and prosperity of all residents in Kwara State,” according to the police report.
