Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has issued a stark warning, declaring the upcoming election to be a “do-or-die” affair. He cautioned that any form of electoral malpractice designed to place the opposition in power could lead to dire consequences.

Speaking at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in the Ekemwan area of the state, Obaseki outlined his achievements and took aim at the previous administration.

“The person I took over from had no respect for our people, no respect for women, and encouraged both prostitution and human trafficking,” Obaseki said. He emphasized the improvements his administration has made, particularly for pensioners and the youth.

“When I took office, our pensioners wore black on Labour Day. But today, they wear white. When I assumed office, the youth were unemployed. But now, don’t they have jobs? After eight years, isn’t Edo one of the safest states in Nigeria?”

In a firm declaration, he added, “This election is a do-or-die matter. If they do (rig), we will die. By this time next week Saturday, vote for PDP to ensure continuity.”

Key Contenders in the Election

On Saturday, September 21, the people of Edo State will head to the polls to elect their next governor. The top contenders in the race are:

  • – Asue Ighodalo (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP)
  • – Monday Okpebholo(All Progressives Congress, APC)
  • – Olumide Akpata(Labour Party, LP)

The outcome of this fiercely contested election will determine the future direction of Edo State.
