Uba Sani, the Kaduna State Governor, has expressed sadness and a deep sense of loss over the death of the 40 people –majority of whom were children– in a motor accident which occurred along Saminaka Road in Lere Local Government Area of the State last Sunday.

From the reports gathered, the children had been en-route for their Eid-el Maulud celebration when a J5 bus they were traveling in, lost control and rammed into an articulated vehicle due to over-speeding and overloading.

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kabiru Nadabo had previously told Channels Television that 25 people died due to complications from the accident, while 48 others received varying degrees of injuries and were quickly transported to various hospitals in Kaduna, Jos and Kano for immediate medical attention.

Unfortunately, the death toll rose to 40 as more victims of the accident died in the hospital where they were being treated.

Following the unfortunate incident, Governor Sani ordered the state commissioner of health, to ensure that the remaining surviving children who were injured from the road accident were given the right medical attention pertaining to their wounds.

Sani’s statement had also expressed his sadness over the tragedy. He also made assurances to reach out to the families of the deceased to offer some aid.

Meanwhile, the remains of the dead victims have been buried in the Lere local government in accordance to the Islamic burial tradition
