The top brass of the Lagos State Police Command reached out to some of the members of the #EndBadGovernance movement, including its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, to confer on issues pertaining to the country.
This invitation, which was confirmed by the state police public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, is coming before the movement’s anticipated protest on October 1, tagged as ‘FearlessInOctober’ which will focus on deleterious economic conditions in the country, and problems of inflation and fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
However, the movement’s lawyers, Inibehe Effiong Chambers, have requested a virtual meeting instead, because of logistical issues, such as lack of time and the absence of some executive members from Lagos state.
In correspondence with Assistant Commissioner of Police Jaiyeoba Joseph, the movement argued against physical-time meetings, concerned that it could be a divisive tactic aimed at rounding up its members. Hundeyin reassured that the meeting would be amicable and that no one was going to be apprehended.
While it is a little inconvenient, the virtual meeting proposal is still a better option as it allows all the participants to enter into the discussion without the need for their presence in a physical location.
The demonstration planned for October 1 will also focus on the current economic state of the nation, with the conveners insisting that there should be a better approach to governance.
