This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the local government, Mr. Kainji Aluge Obia, and made available to newsmen right after.
He said the suspension was due to the unlawful, criminal activities attributed to some of the scavengers.
After the suspension, the local government warned that anybody found engaging in scavenging within the local government area would be apprehended by law enforcement agents for prosecution.
The move by the local government had come after an observed spike in the incidence of illegal and criminal activities originating from some of those involved in scavenging activities.
This was after the scavengers were ordered to participate in documentations by the local government, but the measure had not resolved their reported criminal activities.
