Despite warnings from the Nigerian government and police, organizers of the October 1 Nationwide protest across Nigeria have insisted in proceeding with their plans.
Omoyele Sowore, former Presidential candidate of the the African Action Congress (AAC) and a key organizer, said in a post that got a lot of attention on Monday, “We won’t stop!”
The protest aims to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, including high gas prices, a weak currency, more expensive things in stores, devastating floods, and lots of crime.
The protest will happen at Eagles Square in Abuja and Ikeja Under Bridge in Lagos. The organizers promise that it will be peaceful and law-abiding demonstration.
The federal government, through Information Minister Mohammed Idris, asked the protesters to not be violent and to look at the good things in the government’s plans.
The police commissioner in Lagos, Olanrewaju Ishola, talked with the protest organizers and promised to keep everyone safe while asking them to stay peaceful
