The Nigerian government’s foreign affairs department has started getting ready to bring Nigerian people back from Lebanon because of the growing problems between Israel and Hezbollah that are making things unsafe there.

In a statement released today, Mr. Eche Abu-Obe, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Nigerian government is doing everything it can to keep its people in Lebanon safe and well.

Mr. Abu-Obe said, “The government is working with important groups to help Nigerian people leave Lebanon if they want to, while making sure they are safe and protected.”

The Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has been telling Nigerian people there about important safety tips and asking them to move to safer places. In August, the Embassy told people to use available flights to leave.

So far, no Nigerians have been hurt since the fighting started. But, as a safety step, Nigerians living in the southern part of Lebanon, near the fighting areas, have been moved to Beirut and other safer places with help from Nigerian community leaders.

The Ministry says it is watching the evacuation closely and is getting ready to bring Nigerian citizens back safely. “The Federal Government is dedicated to protecting its citizens abroad and will keep working with important groups to make sure they are safe,” Mr. Abu-Obe said again.

Nigerian citizens in Lebanon should stay alert, follow safety advice from the Nigerian Embassy, and work with the evacuation plans.
