Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has undergone a corrective heart procedure after experiencing palpitations, but he is expected to return to action in the coming weeks, team sources say.
The 26-year-old full-back withdrew from the Morocco squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Central African Republic. Mazraoui will miss this Saturday and Tuesday’s match as he gradually returns to first-team action.
The full-back, who joined United from Bayern Munich in August, has been an ever-present for the team this season. He was selected to start in all seven Premier League games as well as nine out of ten overall for which he had been available. United definitely missed his presence in last Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Villa, for whom he was withdrawn at half time.
Mazraoui’s health update adds to United’s current injury headache, while key defenders Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia are also ruled out. The Moroccan international will be expected to bounce back from his illness in no time to give a much-needed boost to Erik ten Hag’s options at the back.
