U.S. Issues Ultimatum to Israel: Resolve Gaza Crisis or Face Arms Embargo

The United States has issued an ultimatum to Israel, demanding it address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza within 30 days or face an arms embargo. Washington sent a letter to Israel this weekend expressing “deep concern” over the worsening situation in Gaza and urging immediate action. The formal document, addressed to Israeli ministers Ron Dermer and Yoav Gallant, warned that failure to act could lead to consequences under U.S. law, including a potential embargo on arms shipments.

The U.S., traditionally Israel’s strongest ally, has consistently supported Israel’s right to self-defense despite international criticism. However, this ultimatum signals a shift in the long-standing alliance, adding new pressure as Israel faces threats from multiple fronts. An arms embargo could significantly weaken Israel’s military capabilities and challenge its regional dominance.

This U.S. pressure aligns with recent calls from French President Emmanuel Macron, who advocated for halting arms deliveries to Israel amid the conflict. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the idea of an embargo as a “shame.”
