Since Israel intensified its military operations in Lebanon approximately five weeks ago, Hezbollah has launched one of its deadliest strikes in months against northern Israel. This recent escalation included two separate Hezbollah rocket attacks that reportedly killed seven people, including four Thai nationals, according to Thailand’s Foreign Minister on Friday.

The Israeli military reported that a total of 55 projectiles were launched toward northern regions, including Western Galilee, Central Galilee, and Upper Galilee. While some of the projectiles were intercepted, others landed in open areas. Among the casualties were 60-year-old Mina Hasson and her 30-year-old son, Karmi, who were struck by a rocket while picking olives in an olive grove, according to Haaretz.

Diplomatic Efforts for Ceasefire

The escalation comes amid diplomatic efforts aimed at brokering a ceasefire. U.S. special envoys Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem to discuss potential steps to end hostilities. Netanyahu emphasized the need for Israel to secure itself against threats from Lebanon and ensure the safe return of residents displaced by the conflict, as stated by his office.

Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon

The intensified conflict has led to a severe humanitarian toll in Lebanon. Lebanese authorities report that over 2,800 people have been killed since the start of the conflict, with more than 2,200 fatalities occurring in the past five weeks alone. Additionally, approximately 1.2 million people have been displaced due to the violence.

Casualties in Israel and the Golan Heights

In northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, Israeli authorities report that over 60 people have been killed due to Hezbollah’s continued rocket, drone, and missile attacks. This ongoing violence highlights the escalating tension in the region and the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to restore stability.
