Dangote Group Refutes Allegations on PMS Pricing, Upholds Refinery Standards

The Dangote Group has made a public statement to respond to recent complaints from petroleum industry groups, strongly supporting the prices and quality of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) produced by its refinery. In a press release signed by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote Group refuted accusations from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN).

These groups claimed that imported PMS could be sold for less than Dangote’s products. However, Dangote stressed that its products are priced fairly and are of higher quality than imported options. “We compare our prices to international prices, and we think our prices are reasonable compared to the cost of imports,” Chiejina said.

Dangote is worried that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) doesn’t have enough testing places. This could let low-quality imports into Nigeria without anyone noticing. The company says these bad imports could hurt people and cars.

Dangote Refinery’s price for PMS is lower than NNPC’s new price, with supplies costing N960 per litre for ships and N990 for trucks. Dangote is also concerned about an international trading company setting up a place near Dangote’s facilities to mix lower-quality products, trying to create unfair competition.

Dangote promises to keep giving Nigerians good and affordable PMS, urging the public to disregard “deliberate disinformation” aimed at undermining the refinery’s efforts.
