Canada Revamps Visa Policy for Temporary Residents

The Canadian government has made a big change to its rules for tourist visas. They are stopping the usual practice of giving out 10-year visas that let people visit many times.

Effective immediately, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will no longer automatically grant multiple-entry visas with maximum validity. Instead, each person’s visa application will be looked at individually to decide the best type and length of visa for their personal situation.

Under the revised policy, individuals applying for a visa should not assume they will automatically get a 10-year multiple-entry visa. Instead, the type and length of the visa will be decided based on a more thorough review by immigration officials. If a multiple-entry visa is given, its length will depend on the applicant’s personal situation, such as their travel history, connections to their home country, and the reason for their visit.

For travellers planning frequent visits to Canada, this change could mean higher costs and longer wait times, as they might need to apply for a new visa each time they travel. Therefore, it’s important for applicants to provide complete information and a clear explanation of their travel plans to make sure their applications are processed quickly.

Immigration officers will be paying closer attention to applicants who want multiple-entry visas, and these applicants might be asked to provide extra proof of their intentions.
