On Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu left Abuja for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. The summit, which starts today, November 11, 2024, was organised by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the ongoing issues in the Middle East. This year’s summit follows a similar one held in Riyadh in 2023.

At the summit, President Tinubu is expected to talk about the importance of stopping the fighting between Israel and Palestine. Nigeria supports peace and stability in the region and will push for talks to resume and for a two-state solution, which is seen as key to achieving lasting peace.

Nigeria will push for the restart of talks and the pursuit of a two-state solution, which has been seen as important for long-term peace.

In his speech, Tinubu will call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and underscore the importance of a peaceful resolution, urging continuous international efforts to promote stability.

Joining the President on this diplomatic trip are key officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Information and National Orientation Minister Alhaji Mohammed Idris, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed. These officials are expected to support Nigeria’s diplomatic goals at the meeting, working with leaders from other countries to highlight the importance of cooperation in dealing with the crisis.
