In a press statement issued on Friday, Professor Oluwole Akeredolu, the designated head of the Akeredolu family, categorically denied any familial alignment with Olufemi’s endorsement.

He made it clear that the endorsement was a rogue action by Olufemi and had nothing to do with the family’s official position. For those needing further clarification, the professor, who is the immediate younger brother of the late governor, emphasized that neither he nor any other principal family member had thrown their support behind the SDP candidate.

The statement pointedly noted, “The Akeredolu Family has not declared any such support,” underscoring that any political stance taken by Olufemi was purely his individual choice. It seems the family is eager to draw a line between their collective position and the political adventure of Olufemi, who, according to them, does not have the authority to represent the Akeredolu name in matters of political endorsements.

Acknowledging Olufemi’s ongoing activities with the SDP, the family took a rather diplomatic tone, recognizing his right to freedom of association. However, they made it abundantly clear that his actions were entirely his own and did not reflect the official viewpoint of the family.

“He does not speak for the Family, nor is he authorized to do so,” the statement added, effectively shutting down any assumptions of a united front behind the SDP candidate.

On his part, Olufemi attempted to justify his endorsement by highlighting his support for Akingboye’s vision to tap into Ondo State’s underutilized potential. He cited the development of the Ondo Seaport as a key reason for his backing, calling it a major economic driver that could transform the state’s economy.
