At least twenty persons have lost their lives with over 10 others wounded by assailants in Heipang District, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State in the North Central region of Nigeria.
According to reports, residents of the community had revealed that the attackers arrived in the early hours of Thursday, August 10 and overran the community while they were slumbering.
The residents had also revealed that the efforts of vigilantes in the community were not formidable enough to fend off the attackers who allegedly had superior ammunition, compared to the vigilantes’ Dane guns.
According to the town inhabitants, the battle with the attackers resulted in the death of four of the vigilantes, some houses had also been set on fire, killing residents who were deep in sleep and could not escape from the surprise attack on time.
