A 33-year-old teacher named Emmanuel Okoriko has been detained by the Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court on Wednesday, under suspicion of robbery and culpable homicide.
According to Inspector Jonah Uletu, the prosecutor in the case, Kelvin Ikwue, the son of the victim, reported to the police station on May 23rd that the accused had assaulted his father, Adakole Ikwue.
The accused allegedly used a screwdriver to stab the victim in the neck and subsequently stole his Samsung Galaxy phone. The prosecutor further stated that the victim is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital.
Despite the accused contesting the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case, Magistrate Roseline Iyorshe, who presided over the proceedings, ordered that the accused be held in a correctional center.
The case has been adjourned until July 26th.
