Angélique Angarni-Filopon, 34, a flight attendant from Martinique, won the Miss France pageant as the oldest contestant. The triumph comes after a change in the rules of the contest in 2022 that for the first time allowed women over 24 years, married women, and mothers to take part.
In Poitiers, the new winner accepted her crown, dedicating her win to “Martinique, its diaspora, and all women told it was too late.” The winner confessed that she could never have fathomed winning; she described this as surreal.
In the contest were 30 contestants, doctors, dentists, competing in swimwear, regional costumes, and evening gowns. Angarni-Filopon will collect €60,000 in prize money and a Paris apartment as the winner, plus sponsors’ gifts for the Miss France title.
Her victory comes as beauty pageants face scrutiny, with Miss Netherlands recently replaced by a platform highlighting women’s achievements and addressing beauty standards.
