Forty-seven inmates have made a daring escape from a high-security prison in Margibi County, Liberia, a rural expanse situated east of Monrovia, the nation’s capital. According to the Ministry of Justice, this escape occurred over the weekend due to a significant lapse in the prison’s security system.

The gravity of the situation cannot be overstated. The Justice Ministry has expressed profound concern over this incident, asserting that every effort is being made to apprehend the fugitives swiftly. Additional officers have been dispatched to intensify the manhunt, with authorities appealing to the public to remain vigilant and report any leads that might assist in recapturing the escapees.

“The Ministry of Justice is deeply concerned about this incident and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the recapture of the escaped inmates,” it said in a statement.

The ministry’s statement emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging the escaped inmates to surrender voluntarily at the nearest police station or prison authority to avoid facing even more severe charges. This plea underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the fallout from this security failure, though one can’t help but wonder if such a dramatic escape is indicative of deeper systemic issues within the prison system.
