The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 47 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud in Ekpoma, Edo State.
In a statement on Monday via X, the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate disclosed that the arrests took place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, across various locations in Ekpoma.
The statement highlighted that the operation was conducted following “credible intelligence” connecting the suspects to fraudulent internet activities.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that various items were confiscated from the suspects, including 14 luxury cars, laptops, and mobile phones.
The EFCC further stated that the suspects had provided “useful statements” and would face court charges upon the completion of investigations.
The statement said, “Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, arrested 47 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Ekpoma, Edo State.
“The suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.
“Items recovered from them include 14 exotic cars, laptops and phones
“They have made useful statements and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
