The truce between Israel and Lebanon has turned out to be a total lie. Today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his military to bomb the southern part of Beirut. This is the biggest escalation of the war since the two sides agreed to a ceasefire on April 17. Thousands of terrified families are fleeing their homes right now as roads out of the capital are completely blocked with cars.
The Brutal Cost of a Fake Peace
The peace agreement was supposed to stop the violence, but the killing never actually ended. Since the ceasefire was announced, Israeli attacks have killed more than 800 people in Lebanon. The situation has grown far worse over the last few days:
Netanyahu and his defense minister, Israel Katz, claimed they ordered the new strikes on Beirut because Hezbollah kept breaking the ceasefire. Before today, people believed that Beirut was safe from Israeli bombs under the truce. On Sunday, Israeli troops pushed deep into southern Lebanon and captured Beaufort Castle. This 12th-century fortress has changed hands for hundreds of years, from the Crusaders to the Ottomans. Now, Israel is using it as a prize to show off to the public.

Israeli warplanes also heavily bombed the southern city of Tyre, flattening entire buildings in some of the most violent attacks of the war so far.
More than one million people in Lebanon have now been forced out of their homes because of constant Israeli bombings and forced evacuation orders. Since this conflict started in March, after the U.S. and Israel killed Iran’s supreme leader—more than 3,300 people have died in Lebanon, including children and rescue workers.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah strikes have killed more than 20 soldiers and two civilians in Israel and occupied zones.
Destroying the Chance for Global Peace
Many experts believe Israel is rushing to do as much damage to Hezbollah as possible before a larger peace deal stops the fighting.
The United States and Iran have been trying to negotiate a deal to end their own conflict and reopen global shipping routes. However, Iran insists that it will not sign any agreement unless Israel stops attacking Lebanon. By expanding the war today, Netanyahu is putting those global peace talks in serious danger.
European leaders are furious about Israel’s actions. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack, saying that nothing justifies this major escalation. Leaders from the UK and Germany have also demanded that Israel respect the ceasefire, but these warnings are being completely ignored.
Netanyahu Is Mocking the World
Calling the agreement from April 17 a “ceasefire” is a sick joke. You cannot claim you are at peace while your military kills 800 people and forces a million citizens to run for their lives. Netanyahu and his government are using the word “peace” as a shield to hide their true goal: the total destruction of Lebanese towns and cities.
Capturing an old Crusader castle might look good on the news, but it does absolutely nothing to bring safety or end the war. It is pure political theater meant to make the government look strong while innocent people pay with their lives. By bombing Beirut and ignoring world leaders, Israel is showing that it does not care about international law or global stability. They are destroying any chance for a peace deal between the U.S. and Iran just to satisfy their own violent ambitions. The world must stop watching in silence and hold this government accountable for turning a peace truce into a slaughterhouse.
