The world’s longest-tenured disc jockey, Ray Cordeiro, who interviewed musical acts
like the Beatles throughout a six-decade career on Hong Kong radio, has passed away, according to his old employer. He was 98.
According to Radio Television Hong Kong, where Cordeiro worked until 2021, he
passed away on Friday. No cause of death was mentioned.
The Guinness Book of Records named Cordeiro, a Portuguese-born man who was born in Hong Kong in 1924, as the DJ with the longest career.
After serving as a jail warden and a bank clerk, he began working for Hong Kong’s
national broadcaster in 1960. Up until his retirement, Ray hosted the easy-listening
music program “All the Way With Ray” on RTHK Radio 3.
Cordeiro became famous after the Beatles interview was broadcast on Hong Kong
radio. He also spoke with other celebrities and met Tony Bennett and Elton John.
