Bomb Threats Target Four US House Representatives Over Thanksgiving

Four out of Connecticut’s five House representatives have been targeted by bomb threats on the US Thanksgiving holiday.

The individuals, Jahana Hayes, Jim Himes, John Larson and Joe Courtney – all of whom are Democrats – said they were informed by the police that a threat had been made against them. In each case, no evidence of a bomb was found.

However, Connecticut’s fifth house representative, Rosa DeLauro, did not say she received the warning that others did.

The news is following similar hoax threats recently made against many of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees and picks for his White House team.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, about nine people who were chosen by Trump to lead the departments of defence, housing, agriculture, labour, and his pick for US ambassador to the United Nations all received warnings.

At this time, police officials are investigating the incidents.

On Thursday, Connecticut representatives Haynes, Himes and Larson each released statements saying they had been contacted by police about a possible threat.

As at Friday morning, the FBI has yet to respond to an immediate request for comment regarding the incidents and Representative DeLauro, the only Connecticut House member who did not report a threat, could not be reached for comment.

Hoax tactics of this manner have been recently used against other high-profile political figures in the United States, including against the judges and prosecutors who were overseeing the criminal cases against Trump.

Last year, US politicians around the country were hit during Christmas time. Most of those swatted were Republican, but some Democrats were also targeted.
