Nigerian music sensation, Davido, has placed his name on the must-mention list as far as Afrobeats is concerned. He told TheBeatJuice magazine, “Afrobeats can’t be brought up without my name. Impossible.”
Though widely recognized as one of Afrobeats’ biggest artists alongside Wizkid and Burna Boy, Davido has earlier shown some discomfort with the genre’s label. In a podcast, he explained that boxing all African artists under Afrobeats overlooks their unique styles.
“I call my music Afrofusion,” he says, though he fully understands Afrobeats is a driving force in pushing African music to the global stage. Whatever the debate may be, his contribution is undeniably immense to the genre.
