Samuel Eto’o has emerged as the new president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) after winning election that took place on Saturday.
The former Cameroon international, who as a player helped the Indomitable Lions to win the Afcon tournament a couple of times, on Saturday garnered an amazing 43 votes, leading his closest rival in second place which is the incumbent president that was elected in 2018 with 31 votes.
Prior to the election on the early hours of Saturday, the former African footballer of the year award recipient on multiple times had earlier defeated Seidou Mbombo Njoya in mid-January but the result was canceled by Court of Arbitration for Sport because of different issues raised by powerful actors of Cameroon football community.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker in his statement in September made the “reconstruction of Cameroonain soccer” as one of his core mandate while also saying the outgoing president had failed Cameroon football.
Follwoing his victory, the 40-year-old forward defined it as the best moment of his career and says his focus is now on ensuring that the African football continent enjoys the upcoming African Cup of Nations in January.
Cameroon is the host country for the final phase of the African Cup of Nations from January 9 to February 7, 2022.
