Manchester City were defeated for the second Premier League game running following their 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Yasin Ayari settled the contest with the game’s only goal early on as Brighton recorded a famous Premier League victory away to City.
Even though City enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and made numerous forays, they failed to score. Enzo Maresca’s team shot on 21 occasions – with just six on target – but Bart Verbruggen saved well to deny them.
City drop back to the top of the table on 21 points, two ahead of Arsenal having played a game more – though the Gunners could move top with a draw or better at Liverpool on Sunday.
Brighton held onto third place with 19 points as they recorded their sixth win in nine league games.
Verbruggen confessed his team found it difficult to contain the closing stages but rated their resilience to hold on to the lead.

City midfielder Elliot Anderson also criticised their finishing, and felt they could have had three or four.
Erling Haaland suffered a disappointing afternoon as he drew a blank for the first time in seven Premier League games.
City will now look to respond to two consecutive defeats, which have had a significant impact on their early-season momentum.
