Speed Darlington Rotting in Jail: Lawyer Blames Burna Boy for ‘Oppression’

Stan Alieke, the lawyer to controversial singer Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, has expressed his worries over his client’s continued detention. Speed Darlington reportedly has been kept in police custody for more than 20 days, accused of defamation against Burna Boy. He was granted a court release, but police have reportedly refused to do so, stating that they had “instructions” to keep him locked up until January 2025 as a way of punishment.

Stan further disclosed that Speed Darlington was being detained in the underground SARS detention facility, a cell meant for terrorists and hard-time criminals. He expressed outrage at the inhumane treatment of his client, describing this as an abuse of power, and an out-and-out oppression.

The lawyer also accused Burna Boy of being complicit in the saga. He accused the singer of being an enabler of oppression, despite his music speaking against police brutality. Stan further lamented that police brutality was still deeply entrenched in the system of Nigeria, and there was hardly any hope for change.

It has sparked heated debates online, as many are questioning whether justice really can be served when powerful figures influence the system.
