5 Politicians who have thrown their hats in the ring for the presidency in 2023

Five notable politicians from across the country’s registered political parties have expressed their undivided interest in contesting the 2023 presidential election, ahead of the country’s general elections in 2023.

1. Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima

Senator Yerima served as the Executive Governor of Zamfara State for two terms. From 1999 to 2007, he was the ruler of Zamfara State. Between 2007 and 2019, he served as the Senator for the Zamfara West Senatorial District. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress, the main party in Nigeria (APC).

In December 2020, Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima announced his intention to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023 on the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). In July 2021, he expressed his desire to run for President of the United States under the APC platform.

2. Professor Kingsley Moghalu

Professor Kingsley Moghalu served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 until 2014. He is a lawyer, a political economist, and an author.

Professor Kingsley Moghalu was the Young Progressive Party’s (YPP) presidential candidate in the 2019 general election.

Since June 2021, Professor Kingsley Moghalu has proclaimed his intention to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Professor Kingsley Moghalu will leave his old party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), in October 2021 to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he may pursue presidential ambitions.

3. Dr. Doyin Okupe

Dr. Doyin Okupe was President Olusegun Obasanjo’s special assistant and former President Goodluck Jonathan’s senior special assistant.

On October 5th, 2021, Dr. Doyin Okupe stated his intention to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dr. Doyin Okupe is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which is in opposition.

4. Senator Anyim Pius Anyim

Senator Anyim Pius Anyim served in the House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003, representing the Ebonyi South Senatorial District. He served as President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Senator Anyim Pius Anyim launched his candidacy for the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023 on October 30th, 2021.

5. Bukola Saraki

Senator Bukola Saraki served as governor of Kwara State for two terms. He was the former President of the Senate and one of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidates in 2019.

Senator Bukola Saraki announced his desire to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023 during a visit to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He will run on the platform of Nigeria’s biggest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
