President Bola Tinubu has called on African leaders to focus on helping their people escape poverty and creating strong economies. Speaking in Accra on Tuesday at the ceremony for Ghana’s President John Mahama, where he was the special guest of honour, Tinubu stressed that Africa must find its own way to move forward.

“We don’t need to prove anything to anyone but ourselves. We have discovered the key to our success. We will lift our countries out of poverty and build a strong economy at our own speed,” he said.

Showing his support for Ghana, Tinubu said, “I am here not just as Nigeria’s president but also as an African who firmly stands with Ghana and its people.” He called Mahama’s inauguration a proud moment for Ghana, Africa, and the African diaspora, praising the peaceful handover of power as a sign of Ghana’s strong democracy.

“This moment is more than just a step forward in Ghana’s democratic journey. It clearly shows that Ghana and Africa can achieve democracy and progress,” Tinubu added.

Reflecting on the shared history of Nigeria and Ghana, he paid tribute to the founding fathers of both nations, urging leaders to remain committed to their visionary principles. Speaking about Mahama, Tinubu called him “a man with a strong love for his country and clear goals,” who is deeply dedicated to Ghana’s success and the well-being of its people.

He showed his trust in Mahama’s ability to lead, saying, “Your time in office will bring good changes and improvements. This should start a fresh and energetic push for better cooperation and growth in the region.”
