Background and Resignation as Speaker

Njoku, who represented the Osisioma Ngwa North State Constituency during the 7th Assembly, had previously stepped down as Speaker after the PDP facilitated a compromise that led to Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, son of the former Abia governor, assuming the position.

Reasons for Defection

At a gathering in his hometown, Mbutu Nta village, Osisioma Local Government Area, Njoku explained that his decision to leave the PDP followed extensive consultations with his constituents and key stakeholders across the state. Reflecting on his time with the PDP, he expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had received and wished the party well.

“I am grateful to the PDP for the opportunities they provided me and wish them well in their future endeavors,” Njoku said.

Encouraging his supporters to follow his lead, Njoku highlighted the APC’s merit-based approach. He used the Igbo proverb, “Onye ruo, ya erie” (He who works, eats), to emphasize the value of hard work and promised better opportunities for committed individuals within the APC.

Support from Stakeholders

Njoku’s defection has garnered support from several influential figures, including:

  • Comr. Odimegwu Aruru, Chief of Staff to the Bishop Campaign Organization
  • Comr. Emmanuel Nduagu, former President of the Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress
  • Hon. Austin Uruakpa, former leader of the Osisioma Ngwa Legislative Council

These stakeholders urged Njoku’s supporters to register as APC members in their wards, describing his defection as the beginning of a “new dawn” for the people of Osisioma Ngwa and beyond.

Vision for the Future

Addressing his supporters, Njoku assured them that his move to the APC was driven by a vision to create a brighter future for Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area and Abia State. He expressed confidence that the APC would provide a platform for meaningful development and growth in the region.

Youth Endorsement

Comr. Oliver Christian, a youth leader from Isiala Osokwa Ward 6, praised Njoku’s bold decision, pledging the full support of the youth. He noted that the former lawmaker’s defection signals hope for a more prosperous and inclusive political future.

Conclusion

Rt. Hon. Kennedy Njoku’s defection to the APC is poised to reshape the political landscape in Abia State. With strong backing from stakeholders and a commitment to development, his move signals a strategic step toward new opportunities for his supporters and the communities he serves.
