Nigerian disc jockey Nonso Temisan Ajufo, professionally known as DJ Big N, has spoken out about a traumatic robbery in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he narrowly escaped death.

The DJ revealed that the incident occurred on 12 January while he was on his way to a nightclub with a companion.

At a traffic stop, their car was ambushed by six armed men who attacked them. In the chaos, DJ Big N was shot in the leg as he tried to run, and the attackers took his jewellery and other belongings, reportedly worth $114,000.

Sharing his story on social media, DJ Big N described the experience as life-altering. “a night out turned into both the worst and most teachable experience of my life.,” he wrote.

According to him, one of the assailants held a rifle to his head while demanding his valuables. Despite bleeding heavily, he managed to return to the car, and the driver immediately rushed him to a hospital. Doctors informed him that the bullet narrowly missed vital arteries and bones, calling his survival nothing short of miraculous.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, he wrote in part, “On Sunday, January 12th, a night out turned into both the worst and most teachable experience of my life. I went out with some friends to a fancy lounge in Johannesburg, SA. From there I decided to head to another club with another acquaintance. On the way, at a traffic light, we were ambushed by two cars carrying six armed men either automatic rifles.

“In chaos, I tried to escape but I got shot in the leg. One of the robbers put the rifle to my head and demanded my watch, which I struggled to remove, along with my chain and other jewellery. Bleeding heavily, I managed to get back to the car, and the driver rushed me to the nearest hospital. The bullet had passed through my leg, narrowly missing a major artery and bone. Doctors described this as miraculous, calling me ‘lucky.’ I credit my survival to divine intervention and my mother’s prayers.”
