2023 Presidency: A Cold War looms in the South East if Peter Obi declares to run

Some Nigerians have been urging Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, to run for president in 2023.

Despite the fact that Obi has not formally entered the contest, he just requested extra time to make his decision. According to several tabloids, Obi stated that he wanted more time to confer with a wide range of people before deciding whether or not to participate in the marathon.

If Obi enters the presidential campaign, he appears to have the potential to transform the political landscape in the South East. This is due to a variety of circumstances. These factors will be discussed in this post in the future.

First and foremost, Obi possesses the qualifications that will help him succeed. While the other candidates may be qualified for the position, Obi stands out in some aspects. Nigerians are clamoring for a youthful, educated, and experienced leader with a sound understanding of the economy at this time.

Obi’s area of expertise is in this (economics). If he declares, these characteristics, as well as his previous political experience and accomplishments, could give him an advantage in the contest. It implies that he may receive strong support from both parties.

Atiku’s running mate, Obi, had once again given the presidency a good chance. In the 2019 presidential election, Obi is competing against former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. They finished second in the contest, putting up a strong battle against incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

This demonstrates that Obi can do better now that he will not be competing against any incumbents. Because Obi fared well with Atiku in 2019, many people in the South East are likely to back him this time, believing he would do even better, especially because people from all over the country are tipping him to run.

Furthermore, South East leaders may support him as the zone’s preferred candidate. Key South East leaders have already set conditions for presidential contenders to meet in order to receive their support through the Igbo sociopolitical organization, Ohanaeze.

Political savvy, national appeal, patriotism, great intellect, courage, and a track record of accomplishments are among them. Obi didn’t appear to be lacking in this regard.

Additionally, Obi and former Senate President, Anyim Pius Ayim, are the two senior leaders of a powerful political party in the zone, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.

However, the chances appear to be in Obi’s favor because he is younger and has greater PDP support. If he plays his cards right and declares for President, all of this might help him become the consensus choice for the South East.
