Trump Delivers What Biden Denied to Israel

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred the international arena by approving a controversial arms shipment to Israel, which comes after the Biden administration previously stopped the delivery of 2,000-pound bombs over concerns of escalating violence in Gaza.

The decision openly shows the stark difference between Trump’s dedicated support for Israel and Biden’s more cautious approach to Middle Eastern conflicts.

Saar Applauds Trump for “Leadership”

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wasted no time lauding Trump’s decision. “Thank you, President Trump, for yet another display of leadership by releasing the crucial defence shipment to Israel,” Saar wrote on X. He emphasized that the region remains safer when “Israel has what it needs to defend itself.” The praise echoed the sentiments of many Israeli officials who have long considered Trump a steadfast ally of the Jewish state.

Trump himself confirmed the shipment on his Truth Social platform, stating, “A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but have not been sent by Biden, are now on their way!” While Trump did not specify the weapons in question, Israeli media reported that the 2,000-pound bombs previously withheld by Biden were part of the delivery.

Biden’s Caution Causes Debate

In 2022, Biden’s administration froze the shipment of these munitions, citing concerns over their potential use in densely populated areas like Rafah, Gaza. Biden warned that deploying such bombs in civilian areas would result in “great human tragedy and damage.” His administration’s stance was widely seen as an effort to temper Israeli actions during heightened tensions in the region.

Critics of Biden argue that withholding the shipment jeopardized Israel’s security and emboldened adversaries like Hamas. Supporters, however, believe the decision demonstrated a moral high ground, prioritizing civilian lives over escalating military conflict.

Trump’s Legacy as Israel’s “Best Friend”

Trump’s relationship with Israel has always been a cornerstone of his foreign policy. During his presidency, he moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and brokered the Abraham Accords. Trump often boasted, “Israel never had a better friend in the White House,” a claim frequently said by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, their relationship took a hit when Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his 2020 election victory, which Trump deemed disloyal. Despite this.Trump’s latest decision to expedite arms to Israel reaffirms his commitment to the country.

A Fragile Truce in Gaza

The arms shipment comes at a delicate time. A tentative truce between Israel and Hamas is currently holding, following the militant group’s October 2023 attack on Israel. The ceasefire has allowed for the exchange of hostages and prisoners, but the region remains on edge. Certain persons question whether introducing more heavy weaponry into the equation could destabilize the fragile peace. Trump’s decision has reinforced his reputation as a staunch ally of Israel.
