In a courtroom drama fit for a soap opera, Timileyin Ajayi, the alleged killer of NYSC member Salome Adaidu, stunned everyone by pleading not guilty. Yes, the same Timileyin who reportedly confessed to the murder and was found with the victim’s head as some sort of macabre trophy is now changing his tune.

A Quick Recap of the Gruesome Tale

To jog your memory, this is the man who admitted to killing Adaidu, claiming it was retribution for her “cheating.” Not only did Timileyin admit to the gruesome murder, he was caught red-handed with the victim’s head. Yet here we are, witnessing a not-guilty plea like it’s a plot twist in a poorly written crime novel.

Courtroom Shenanigans Begin

On Monday, at the High Court of Justice in Lafia, Timileyin stood before Justice Simon Aboki to face the music or rather, dodge it. Charged with culpable homicide, punishable by death under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, one might think the case was clear-cut. But no, the courtroom exercise took a bizarre turnout after Timileyin made a defiant not-guilty plea.

The Irony of Justice

It’s almost poetic, confess one day, deny the next. Perhaps Timileyin believes this sudden change of heart will baffle the justice system into submission. Or maybe he’s banking on a dramatic court saga where “innocent until proven guilty” takes center stage. Either way, the irony isn’t lost on anyone.

Bottom Line

Timileyin Ajayi’s plea may have left jaws dropping, but the facts remain as grisly as ever. With evidence stacked against him like a morbid Jenga tower, one can only wonder: what’s the endgame here? For now, we wait as the wheels of justice turn slowly, dramatically, and with a touch of absurdity.
