Peter Obi could be PDP’s best chance to regain power in 2023

Rumours concerning Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Vice Presidential nominee for the 2019 election, pursuing a presidential bid in 2023 have been circulating for some time.

A Twitter user recently threatened the former Governor with a lawsuit if he does not run for President by the end of January.

Peter Obi encouraged the Twitter followers to give him some time in his response. This means that the former Governor will declare his candidacy for President of Nigeria in the coming days. However, as we all know, securing the PDP presidential nomination in 2023 will not be simple for him. This is owing to the fact that several other prominent figures in the party have expressed interest in running for president in 2023.

Aside from the race for the PDP ticket, the party is clearly more focused on regaining power in 2023. Remember that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was Nigeria’s ruling party from May 1999 to May 2015, when former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan passed power to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) (APC). After losing power, the PDP attempted a comeback in 2019, but was defeated by the APC once again.

The upcoming presidential election in 2023 has provided the PDP with yet another chance to reclaim power. However, the party may need to evaluate its chances with all of the candidates. This is because many Nigerians are already calling for a leader who is capable of repositioning the country’s economy. The economy, it is often claimed, is the foundation of society, supporting all other social institutions.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why many Nigerians are more concerned about electing a president capable of transforming the country’s economy.

As a result, I believe Peter Obi’s projected presidential bid in 2023 could be the PDP’s greatest chance to reclaim power in 2023. This is because many Nigerians, especially the youth, who make up the majority of the electorate, see him as a capable hand.

It can also be argued that having Peter Obi as the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2023 will give the party an advantage and boost the party’s prospects of returning the power it lost in 2015. The reason for this is that many voters are likely to vote for the former Governor of Anambra State, believing that he is the type of president who can transform the country’s economy.
