In a recent phone conversation, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed on the importance of reinforcing the Gaza ceasefire. However, Trump’s controversial call for the transfer of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan was notably absent from their discussions. This call, widely criticized as a form of ethnic cleansing, has sparked anger from leaders in the Arab world, including Egypt.

No Mention of Palestinian Transfer Proposal

While Trump reiterated his stance, suggesting that Egypt and Jordan should bear the burden of accommodating displaced Palestinians, Sisi firmly rejected the idea, calling it “an act of injustice.” This move highlights the ongoing tension surrounding Trump’s foreign policy decisions in the Middle East, especially concerning the Palestinian issue.

The lack of mention of Trump’s suggestion during the official statements highlights the delicate diplomatic dance taking place. Sisi’s rejection of the proposal reflects Egypt’s stance on maintaining regional stability.

The leaders also discussed boosting their economic and investment ties, signaling a potential shift in Egypt’s engagement with the U.S. Despite this, the controversial issue of Palestinians and their future remains a topic too sensitive to address directly, with both leaders steering clear of further confrontation.
