Renowned Nigerian actor Columbus Irisoanga, best known for his role in the 2001 film Isakaba, has passed away.

His colleague Hilda Dokubo confirmed Irisoanga’s passing in an Instagram tribute on Thursday.

She shared her shock over the frequent loss of loved ones, questioning whether “heaven could be running short on angels.”

Dokubo described Irisoanga as an “angel” and called his death a significant loss for actors in Rivers State.

“There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport Rivers State Nollywood,” she wrote.

“Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu.”

A native of Okrika, Rivers, Irisoanga played the role of the powerful chief priest Igbudu in the 2001 Nollywood hit Isakaba.

In addition to his acting career, he served as a senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, teaching acting in the Department of Theatre Arts.

Irisoanga obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees from the University of Port Harcourt.

He was honoured with numerous recognitions and accolades for his craft.

The cause and date of Irisoanga’s death are yet to be determined. His passing comes shortly after the death of actress Pat Ugwu.
