The US Attorney General has accused federal investigators of withholding thousands of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In a public letter, Attorney General Pam Bondi urged FBI Director Kash Patel to release all information by Friday morning without omissions. Bondi also called for an investigation into why these documents were withheld, emphasizing the need for transparency in the Epstein case.

First Batch of Declassified Epstein Files Released

On Thursday, Bondi released the “first phase” of newly declassified Epstein files. However, the documents contained no major new allegations about Epstein or revelations about his associates. The files mostly consist of previously leaked information, including flight logs from Epstein’s private jet and a partially redacted contacts list.

What to Know About Epstein’s Arrest, Death, and Ongoing Investigations

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking and died by suicide while awaiting trial. Despite his death, investigations into his crimes and the involvement of his associates continue. Bondi has demanded that all information related to Epstein be turned over by 08:00 EST (13:00 GMT) on Friday, “regardless of how it was obtained.”

FBI Director Vows Accountability in Epstein Investigation

FBI Director Kash Patel responded to Bondi’s demands in a post on X, stating that the agency is entering “a new era—one that will be defined by integrity, accountability, and the unwavering pursuit of justice.” Patel promised there would be “no cover-ups, no missing documents, and no stone left unturned.”

Republican lawmakers have also joined Bondi in clamouring for the disclosure of all information about Epstein. During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised to release the “Epstein list,” a rumored document believed to link high-profile individuals to sex crimes.

However, the limited information in the recently released files has disappointed some Republicans, including Representative Anna Paulina Luna, who criticized the lack of transparency and the general public.

Conservative Influencers Receive Initial Epstein Files

On Thursday afternoon, February 26, the White House handed over the first batch of 200 files—labeled “The Epstein Files: Phase I”—to conservative influencers. Recipients included political commentator Rogan O’Handley (DC Draino) and Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raichik. Despite the release, critics like Glenn Beck have called the files a “total joke,” questioning who is subverting the process.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s Role in Epstein’s Crimes

Much of the information about Epstein’s crimes has emerged from civil litigation involving Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s accusers, and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell.

Maxwell, who was convicted of sex trafficking for aiding Epstein in sexually abusing young girls, lost her appeal last year. Epstein himself had pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008.

Calls for Full Transparency in Epstein Case

The release of the Epstein files has reignited calls for full transparency. Bondi has directed FBI Director Patel to deliver a comprehensive report on why her orders were not followed through and to propose personnel actions within 14 days. The American public and lawmakers alike are also demanding accountability and the complete disclosure of all documents related to Epstein’s crimes.
