Morotoluwa Ojomo, the Nigerian-born American football player who won the 2025 Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, has announced plans to build a sports academy in Nigeria. He believes investing in young athletes will help Nigeria become a powerhouse in global sports.

Ojomo arrived in Lagos with his family on Wednesday and later met with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, to discuss his vision. He emphasized that Nigeria’s future depends on creating opportunities for its youth.

Morotoluwa Ojomo to Promote American Football in Nigeria

Ojomo is determined to grow American football in Nigeria and has partnered with local organizations to promote flag football. He revealed that tryouts are already happening in Lagos as part of Nigeria’s preparation for the 2028 Olympics.

“In the meeting yesterday, we proposed a plan to build an academy that will develop Nigerian-born athletes and help them grow in strength and skill,” Ojomo said. “The goal is to see Nigerians excelling in American football. I believe the sport is not popular here because people do not understand it.”

Morotoluwa Ojomo stressed that young people need resources to develop their talents. “The youth is where change happens, and investing in them is crucial,” he said.

Morotoluwa Ojomo Credits His Success to Nigeria

Born in Lagos in 2001, Morotoluwa Ojomo moved to California at age seven. He credits his Nigerian upbringing for his work ethic and determination. His Super Bowl victory with the Eagles places him among other Nigerian-born NFL champions like C.J. Uzomah and Charles Omenihu.

“I would not be here without Nigeria,” Ojomo said. “There is a saying that the grass isn’t greener elsewhere—it’s greener where you water it. We have the opportunity to water it.”

Abike Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Morotoluwa Ojomo on his Super Bowl win and his efforts to support Nigerian youth. She also confirmed that the Nigerian government would honor him for his achievements.

“We thank you for making us proud,” she said. “No matter how much you excel abroad, home will always be home.”

Morotoluwa Ojomo Believes Nigeria Can Lead in Sports

Morotoluwa Ojomo believes that Nigeria has the potential to dominate the global sports industry. “What we are working on now is to provide more opportunities for the youth and ultimately make Nigeria the greatest country in the world,” he stated.

Morotoluwa Ojomo is proof that Nigerians can succeed globally, but poor leadership and weak enforcement of policies continue to hold the country back. If Nigeria invests in youth development, it can achieve far more on the world stage.

With his determination to see Nigerian talent flourish, Morotoluwa Ojomo to build a sports academy in Nigeria is more than just a dream, it is a step toward unlocking the country’s full potential in global sports.
