NDLEA agrees partnership with Nigerian Army

Results of the United Nations Office on Drugs and crimes, UNODC, and the National Bureau of Statistics, has shown that over 14million Nigerians abuse and misuse drugs, and out of which almost 3 million people have suffered a Drug Use Disorder.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), based on this, is calling for the assistance of the  Military Police of the Nigerian Army corps in  the area of manpower development and capacity building poised  at curtailing illegal drug use in the country. 

The Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, as well the Director Internal Affairs NDLEA, Hamisu Lawal (mni), made this request in a courtesy visit to the Provost Marshal (Army) Maj Gen Olumuyiwa Aiyenigba, with a team he led at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police, Abuja.

He also noted that the already built relationship existing between the two bodies have helped Nigeria for years in curbing various illegal activities such as Human Trafficking, Drug trafficking and other related issues in the country.

Lawal, further affirmed to the credibility Nigerian Army Military police corps saying that the agency has for long viewed them as a credible and reliable institution in all their areas of responsibility.

In response, the Provost Marshal (Army) commended the Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, NDLEA and his able team for the visit and admonished them to continue battling hard in containing the use of illegal drugs with the sole goal of liberating the country from the shackles of Drug abuse.

He also assured them of the full support of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police in the areas of kinetic and non-kinetic operations, in order to ensure that the challenges of illegal use of drugs are contained.

The Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retired) was commended by Gen Aiyenigba, for grading the core values of the agency as well as changing the narratives in combating the consumption of illegal drugs, it’s sales and trafficking.

The event also saw to the signing of the visitors book, presentation of souvenirs, beautifying the Provost Marshal Army with War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) badge as WADA Ambassador and group shots.
