An Austin man has been arrested on felony charges for attempting to solicit sex from a 15-year-old Houston girl online, including wanting to bring her to a Trump rally and get her pregnant.
Hunter James Kufta, 32, has been charged with online solicitation of a minor and was taken into custody while in Austin. According to officials, the teen’s parents reached out to authorities after learning Kufta was repeatedly and explicitly sending messages to their daughter and would not leave her alone.
The Investigation
The parents initially alerted the Memorial Villages Police Department, which then referred the case to the Harris County Constable Precinct 1 Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. An undercover detective assumed the teenager’s online identity with help from the parents.
Court records state the suspect expressed feelings for the girl and stated he wanted to travel to Houston to meet her, sleep with her, and have a child with her. Officials say he also invited the girl and her parents to go with him to a Trump rally in San Antonio.

Kufta was arrested Thursday night in Austin with assistance from the Austin Police Department.
The Charges
Kufta is facing a second-degree felony charge of online solicitation of a minor in Harris County. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
According to Harris County officials, Kufta was previously convicted in Florida of a sex offense involving a minor and was required to register as a sex offender. He moved to Texas from Florida in April.
The Bottom Line
Hunter James Kufta, 32, has been arrested and charged with online solicitation of a minor after allegedly sending explicit messages to a 15-year-old Houston girl and expressing a desire to get her pregnant. He invited her and her parents to a Trump rally in San Antonio. Kufta has a prior conviction for a sex offense involving a minor in Florida. Authorities are asking anyone with information about his involvement with other minors to come forward.
My Opinion
This case is a parent’s nightmare. A 32-year-old man with a prior conviction for a sex offense involving a minor moved to Texas in April and, within months, was allegedly sending explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl, telling her he wanted to get her pregnant and inviting her family to a political rally. The parents did everything right. They went to the police. They helped the investigation. And an undercover detective caught him.
But this case also raises uncomfortable questions. Kufta was a registered sex offender. He had already been convicted of a sex offense involving a minor in Florida. He moved to Texas, and within months, he was allegedly targeting another child. How did this happen? What safeguards failed? Are there other victims who have not come forward?
The Harris County Constable’s office is asking anyone with information about Kufta’s involvement with other minors to contact them. That is the right call. But it should not take a parent’s worst fear to catch a repeat offender.
