Directive on Local Government Administration

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the October 5, 2023, local government elections, Fubara has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to assume control of the 23 local government councils across the state. These civil servants will oversee council affairs until fresh elections are conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

Additionally, the governor instructed outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over to the HLGAs by Monday, March 3, 2025, ensuring a smooth transition of power at the local government level.

Call for Calm and Continued Governance

Fubara reassured the people of Rivers State that, despite the challenges posed by the Supreme Court’s ruling, his administration remains focused on governance and stability. He urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities peacefully, while his government takes necessary steps to implement the court’s decisions.

Conclusion

Governor Fubara’s response to the Supreme Court ruling accentuates his administration’s dedication to the rule of law and constitutional governance. By ensuring an orderly transition in local government administration, he aims to maintain stability and uphold democratic processes in Rivers State. Residents will now look forward to the next steps, including the scheduling of fresh local government elections.
