Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz says he does not back the lawsuit brought by the Novak Djokovic-led Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) against the ATP Tour.

Speaking before the Miami Open, the world No. 3 said he did not know of the legal case or of the strongly-worded statement issued by the PTPA. “To be honest, it was a surprise for me because no one told me something about that. I just found it on social media,” Alcaraz said.

The complaint takes aim at the ATP, WTA and other governing bodies for anti-competitive practices. Previous comments Alcaraz had made regarding the tour schedule were referenced in the filing, but he said he had no idea they would be included. “I didn’t support that letter because I didn’t know anything about it,” he added.

While not all of their complaints were invalid, Alcaraz remained neutral. “The bottom line is I do not support it,” he added.

The PTPA’s claims have been denied by the ATP, WTA, ITF, and ITIA, who have defended their governance of the sport.
