The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that airstrikes conducted by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai have destroyed three terrorist gun trucks and killed several insurgents in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle, north of Chiralia.

The strikes, which took place over the weekend, were based on intelligence from ground troops tracking terrorist movements in the region.

Intelligence-Led Operation

In a statement issued by the Deputy NAF Spokesman, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the operation was initiated after ground forces observed three terrorist gun trucks moving from Sabon Gari toward Chiralia.

“With precision and lethality, the NAF aircraft engaged the targets, launching rockets and cannons that obliterated two of the vehicles. As the insurgents attempted to reposition the third gun truck, a follow-up strike was executed, destroying it completely,” the statement read.

The airstrikes were carried out as part of an Air Interdiction (AI) mission, where fighter jets were deployed to intercept the terrorists. Upon arrival, pilots identified multiple insurgents and their vehicles, which were hidden under trees in an attempt to avoid detection.

Significant Blow to Terrorist Activities

The airstrikes not only destroyed the gun trucks but also neutralized several terrorists attempting to escape. The NAF described the operation as a significant blow to the insurgents’ ability to conduct attacks and maintain a presence in the region.

“The overwhelming firepower set all targeted vehicles ablaze, and many terrorists attempting to flee were neutralized in the aftermath,” the statement added.

The Timbuktu Triangle, a known hotspot for terrorist activity in the North-East, has been the focus of intensified military operations aimed at curbing insurgent movements and protecting civilian populations.

NAF Reaffirms Commitment to Security

Group Captain Ali emphasized that the NAF remains committed to supporting ground forces and maintaining pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region.

“This operation highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s ongoing commitment to dismantling terrorist networks, denying insurgents freedom of movement, and providing critical air support to ground forces,” Ali stated.

He further reassured the public that the NAF will continue its counterterrorism efforts to ensure that insurgents find no safe haven while working to reinforce security and stability across the North-East.
