Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has applauded Oby Ezekwesili for defending her during a heated exchange at the Senate Committee panel on Tuesday. The Kogi Central lawmaker expressed deep gratitude to the former Education Minister, acknowledging her as a champion of accountability and an icon of visionary leadership.

In a post on X, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan thanked Oby Ezekwesili for enduring insults on her behalf, stating, “Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership.”

She further described Ezekwesili as a fearless advocate for good governance, democracy, and education, emphasizing that Nigerians appreciate her dedication and resilience.

In response, Oby Ezekwesili reaffirmed her commitment to justice, stating that the struggle for accountability is worth any level of insult.

“A torrent of insults from any source is but a little price to pay in our resolve to see a Nigerian that becomes. Our daughters and granddaughters must never inherit battles and wars we should have fought and won for them,” she wrote on X.

The statement came after Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Oby Ezekwesili faced hostility at the Senate Committee panel, where the former minister represented the Kogi senator through legal counsel Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi in the ongoing sexual harassment case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Ezekwesili directly accused the Senate of avoiding the real issue of sexual harassment, insisting that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan deserves justice.

The hearing turned chaotic when a male senator from Ebonyi North, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, clashed with Oby Ezekwesili, leading to a heated exchange filled with gender-shaming and personal attacks.

Ezekwesili also called out Senator Nedamwem Imasuen, who presided over the committee, accusing him of bias and unfairness. She insisted that for the sake of transparency, he should step down from the case.

Throughout the controversy, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan stood by Oby Ezekwesili, reinforcing her respect for the former minister’s courage. While some critics label Ezekwesili a feminist, at least she stands for what is right, unlike some Nigerian women who betray their fellow women for political gain. This applause is definitely a case of women supporting women.
