Nigerian singer Terry G, born Gabriel Oche Amanyi, has expressed his dissatisfaction with comparisons between him and the controversial artist, Portable.
In a post on X on Monday, Terry G voiced his frustration, calling such comparisons disrespectful and emphasizing his significant, long-term impact in the music industry.
He pointed out that his music continues to resonate with audiences even after more than a decade, distinguishing him from Portable.
He wrote, “Comparing me to Portable is disrespectful because I actually have music people listen to 10 years later.”
Terry G, famed for his unique and high-energy style, gained prominence with hits like “Akpako” and “Free Madness.” His music blends Afrobeats, dancehall, and street-hop, and he has remained a polarizing figure due to his bold lyrics and outspoken nature.
His musical style, which fused Galala rhythms with White Garment influences and Hip Hop, shares similarities with Portable’s sound and fashion. Despite these parallels, the two artists have a history of collaboration, with Terry G appearing on Portable’s track ‘Ogbafia,’ and both featuring on C Prince’s song ‘Koba.’
