Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen, is injured again after the 23-year old was forced off the pitch on Wednesday, his Serie A side has confirmed.
Napoli announced that their star striker was forced off the pitch during yesterday’s training session due to a thigh injury but are mum on the extent of the injury.
“Victor Osimhen was unable to continue the training session after feeling pains in his left thigh,” the club said in an official statement.
It is the latest setback for Osimhen who was out for almost eight weeks due to a cheekbone injury in November, which necessitated his wearing a face protective mask since returning to action. Nevertheless, he has still managed to score 15 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for the Neapolitans this season.
The Partenopei trail league leaders AC Milan by just one point after winning 3-1 away at Atalanta on Sunday when Osimhen was absent after being suspended for accumulation of cards. He’s now a major doubt for the club’s next game at home against eighth-placed Fiorentina on Sunday at the Stadio Maradona.
On the international scene, Osimhen failed to help Nigeria reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after the Super Eagles were eliminated on goals aggregate by Ghana’s Black Stars in the final qualifying play-off.
